Naan is a leavened, oven-baked flatbread which was introduced at the Imperial Court in Delhi, India sometime in 1300 AD. Since then, it has been a staple food in Asian countries. Naan in old Persian means bread. Which means saying "naan-bread" is merely just repeating the phrase "bread-bread". Politely remind your guests of this dinner no-no, while you add another piece of Naan to their plate.

While this naan recipe calls for butter-infused olive oil, feel free to explore other flavors like Tandoori Masala, Garlic and Basil. Naan is a wonderful compliment, albeit necessary piece of the dinner menu with any Mediterranean-style dish like baba ganoush or Indian-style cuisine serving veg or non-veg curry dishes.

• 4 cups all-purpose flour
• ¾ cup of plain yogurt
• ¾ warm milk
• 3/4 cup warm water
• 1 package active dry yeast
• 1 tsp sugar
• 1 tsp salt
• 2 tsp of Bari Butter infused Olive Oil

Step 1:
  • In a large mixing bowl combine flour and salt and create a well in the center.
  • In a small mixing bowl combine warm water, yeast and sugar, mix well and cover
  • Let it sit for 10 minutes
  • Then mix in the yogurt and milk, pour over the flour and mix until dough is formed
  • Then drizzle olive oil on top of it and cover with a kitchen towel
  • Let rise for an hour in a warm place.
Step 2:
  • After the dough rises, flour a flat surface and turn the dough, knead and then cut into 12 equal pieces and shape into a small ball.
  • Flour the flat surface and shape the balls into disc about ¼ inch thick and about 6 inches wide, do not create round shapes but instead create oval shapes.
Step 3:
  • Heat up the iron skillet
  • Once it is very hot, lower to medium and drizzle olive oil and cook each naan (do not flip until you see bubbles forming about 2-3 minutes each side). Keep the cooked naan covered with a kitchen towel.
Step 4:
  • Mince 2 garlic
  • Chop about ¼ cup of cilantro
  • Mix garlic and cilantro with ½ cup butter olive oil, brush the naan with the olive oil.
